Obiectivul principal al proiectului a fost de a stabili un centru de învățământ la distanță la Universitatea „Politehnica” din Timișoara, ca parte a unei rețele de 49 de centre din Europa Centrală și de Est, 7 dintre acestea fiind stabilite în România.

The following activities were performed:

• Development of new courses;
• Operation of distance learning courses;
• Staff training and development;
• Purchase of equipment for the Center;
• Improving the management and administration of IDD.

As part of the Phare Multi-Country program, the Network of Distance Education Centers became fully operational and for more than 15 years, it was the starting point for future partnerships in various EU projects, training several UPT employees in the postgraduate course LOLA (Learning about Open Learning), led by Herriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK; and UPT members in EDEN – European Distance and e-learning Network.
